Let’s talk about the top causes of truck accidents in the state of Florida. I’m Steve Kramer. I’m a Florida injury and accident attorney and I handle truck accidents. First, one of the biggest causes of truck accidents is failure to maintain equipment. And that’s one of the first things we look for when we investigate a truck accident is was the cab maintained properly? Is the trailer maintained properly? Is the safety equipment maintained properly? Are the lights in proper working order? Are there defective parts? Are the tires defective? Have the tires been maintained properly? So you have your whole equipment questions. Next, what about the driver? A lot of these accidents are caused by driver error. Were there drugs involved? Was the driver speeding? Was the driver familiar with the roads? Was the driver fatigued? Was the driver hyped up on caffeine and energy drinks because they hadn’t slept in four days? Did the driver drive a 24 hour shift? Was the driver talking on his cell phone? You know, was there a worker’s comp claim where the driver hurt his arm six months ago? I saw that in one case. Guy had hurt his arm, was driving with his arm and barely able to use his arm. Guess what? That was a big cause of the accident. Was the driver distracted? Was the driver being aggressive? You know, these are common causes of truck accidents.
