You’ve been sued for not paying your credit card bill by the bank. What do you do? I’m Steve Kramer. I’m a Florida attorney and what we’re talking about is sometimes when you don’t pay that credit card bill and when you owe $5,000 or $10,000 to American Express or Discover or whatever credit card is out there. They will go ahead and sue you for the money. And the question is what do you do? And the most important thing that you have to do is answer the lawsuit. You’ve got to file some kind of response because if you don’t, you lose automatically. You lose the case and you’ll owe them money. And they’re not going to just let it go there, they’re not suing you because it makes them feel good. They’re suing you because they want money. And the way they’re going to get that money is by garnishing your wages or by garnishing your bank accounts or by trying to take your assets. And that can be a very inconvenient process and there’s defenses to that process but we don’t want to go there. The easiest thing to do is to get an attorney involved in the case and start defending it and there’s lot of options. One of those may be negotiating with the credit card company. A lot of times you can settle these debts for pennies on the dollar. Or maybe if you’re not in the position to negotiate because you’re having a real hard time financially, well that’s fine. Maybe we look at bankruptcy – that’s another option, that’s another way we can get you out of this debt and wipe the slate clean. Or maybe we defend the lawsuit because maybe the lawsuit against you is bogus or maybe they can’t prove their case. Maybe they don’t have good records of exactly what happened or maybe this is some collection company that’s bought the debt. Maybe it’s been sold five or six times. And you know what? I’ve seen a lot of those cases and in those cases they can’t prove that you owe them money. And if they can’t prove it, you win and that’s what we want. We want a good result and that’s what I’m here to do and that’s why I’m telling you about this because I’ve seen many, many credit card cases. I’ve handled numerous credit card cases.
